Advanced augmented reality Treatment for First Responders
The FST5 program offers an advanced treatment option that is actively used to support and treat first responders. This approach uses augmented and mixed reality to help first responders safely re-enter everyday situations that can feel overwhelming after trauma or chronic stress — such as grocery stores, family gatherings, restaurants, or returning to work environments like a police or fire station.
This approach uses augmented and mixed reality to help first responders safely re-enter everyday situations that can feel overwhelming after trauma or chronic stress — such as grocery stores, family gatherings, restaurants, or returning to work environments like a police or fire station.
With clinical support, individuals practice these situations at their own pace in a controlled, real-world setting. The goal is simple: help your nervous system relearn what is safe, so daily life and work feel manageable again.
This treatment was developed at the Stress, Trauma & Anxiety Research Clinic (STARC) at Wayne State University and has received international recognition, including the 2025 XR Health Care Solution of the Year Award, for its real-world impact in treating PTSD and anxiety.
If you or someone you know is avoiding daily tasks, public spaces, or work situations, this treatment may help.
